The Book of the Doomed served as the official records of the judgements of Princess Orithia‘s Court of the Final Atonement, called “the Dark Court” by many. No full example of the text survives but recovered fragments indicate that it included little record of the alleged crimes or the trials but simply the name of the accused, the charge and the verdict – always guilty. These fragments are written in what appears to be blood, most likely the blood of the court’s victims.
Secondary sources report that the Book contained the name of each of the 312,847 victims of the Purge. The majority of these were philosophers, academics and scientists – including the renowned priestess-scholar Luzia Viegas – and the loss of these intellectuals set back the region by decades.
